She is back in the yard

After a summer tour of a few areas in the Med, she is now back in Kiel Germany for some more work. No word yet how long this time, However sources suggest the shed she is currently in is booked until the summer. I wonder if they will repaint her a different color? My vote is for a HUGE blue racing stripe down the middle of her! HA

Possible owner of Motor Yacht A

After some searching on the internet it seems the consensus is that the owner is Andrey Melnichenko (yes another Russian Billionaire)! According to Forbes, he made his money in coal, banking, and chemicals in Russia.

An interesting find; it turns out he and his wife have a personal website – kind of an online biography of the two. Kind of surprising considering the security risk this must create. However, nothing on the site suggest anything about the yacht – so the rumors could be wrong…

We have recently spotted the Motor Yacht A anchored of the coast of Palma. She is a fair distance from the shore, so if you want a good look at her you will probably need a boat. We have also spotted her tenders making shore runs. These are some very funky looking designs. We are currently trying to get some shots of them. Once we do we will post them here.

July 1st, 2008 saw the official launch of the Motor Yacht A (AKA: Project SF99, Sigma). The cost and owner are anyone’s guess, but the consensus is that it is yet another Russian Billionaire (we have confirmed with Roman Abramovich’s fleet management that it is not his yacht). His two new ones are Luna (due 2009) and Eclipse (due 2010).

She is a unique design. Many hate her, yet many love her. Regardless of your opinion, you have to admit it is always a good thing when the mold is broken to expose the world to something new…

As we get more info and shots of the Motor Yacht A as she cruises the world we will post it here on www.amotoryacht.com.
